Rescue Heroes Prototype

Posted in Flash | 2 Comments »

Here is Rescue Heroes as a basic game. You can catch people falling off the building and get points. Your lives are indicated on the top left as helmets and your score is top right. You get more points for catching people dead center and less points for catching on the edge.  Also, catching dead center and getting a “perfect!” will start a combo multiplier. Each perfect after that will increase the multiplier by 1 and the normal score will be multiplied by that. The appearance sequence of falling people is not final yet, its pretty much impossible to save the 3rd person!

Here’s how the firemen will run around in the game, trying to rescue falling people.

Click on the movie to catch focus then use the LEFT and RIGHT arrow keys to control.

Also, the fire is in there just for fun, it’ll be redone for the final game.

Finished Title Screen

Well, that took much longer than expected! What with Youth 09 + Iceblast Bugs + Lecturing + Muay Thai training, things dragged on longer than usual. Anyhoo, here is the current Titlescreen for Rescue Heroes:Firefighter, click to see the version with animated fx!

Rescue Heroes:Firefighter update

Well, being the holiday season and all I didn’t accomplish much except gain weight…heheh. This is what I’ve got so far, only art and no code. Forgive the crude building in the background, still working on that.

New game in development

Posted in Flash, Uncategorized | 1 Comment »

Having developed Iceblast, which in total took me 8 months, I’ve decided to try my hand at smaller simpler games to be distributed online and hopefully get sponsorship and ad  money.

I’m starting a new series of games called Rescue Heroes. It features simple gameplay around the theme of “real heroes”. The first of it will be Rescue Heroes:Fire Rescue. You basically control a team of firemen that have to catch people jumping out of a burning building.

I plan to have it set within a 1930s setting with similar art style(hopefully as I am quite woeful at art). The only thing complete so far is the logo.

How is Iceblast:Level Challenge doing?

Posted in Flash, Uncategorized | No Comments »

Well, i’ve put it up for sponsorship on flashgamelicense.com and so far I haven’t got any bids yet. There have been a few sponsors that have taken a look but no one has put in a bid. I’ve gotten a complaint saying that it was too hard to get a highscore. I think Iceblast may be a bit too complex for this sort of situation as although it is relatively simple in terms of mechanics, to be able to master the tactics involved in getting a high score is more complex. I’ve added a tips & tricks section in the description so hopefully it’ll help them along. I guess I might change the help to a tips section to help nudge people into the right direction.

Iceblast:Level Challenge is done!

Posted in Flash, Uncategorized | No Comments »

Well, its done and it even has an online leaderboard to boot, courtesy of mochiads. Check it out over here..

*p.s - read the help, it really….er, helps. Try to get as high a score as possible!

Iceblast:Level Challenge…almost there!

Posted in Flash, Uncategorized | No Comments »

Well, i’m almost done with Iceblast:LC and I thought I’d give you guys a look. Here is a screenshot of the game now:

See anything different? He he… Well creating a online game you have to make sure to have the single most important function to your game. The Mute button. You should always add in the mute button so that your players won’t be caught by their boss/teacher/parents!

the other new thing you can see is the combometer & the pow button. The combo meter fills up when you create combos and once you have it filled, the pow button appears. Click on it and you’ll get a surprise that will help you get a higher score.

I’ve also added a ranking system based on the score, to encourage players to explore the strategies needed to get a higher score and in turn achieve a higher rank.

Now the rest of the stuff I have to do is a leaderboard. I’m probably going with Mochileaderboards because I’m way too lazy to create my own, and since i’m going with mochiads anyway.

So keep your eyes on this blog, Iceblast:Level Challenge will be out any day now!

Remnants of Skystone

I’ve recently had the pleasure of being an Alpha tester for a new game created for Kongregate by Flipline. Called Remnants of Skystone, its one of the recipients of Kongregate’s Premium games sponsorship where they sponsor up to $150k for developers to create a multiplayer game. Skystone is a MMORPG wrapped in a platformer with a pretty unique art style. That’s my Crag class character Burberry there by the way.

You start off in the character creation screen and can create 3 different classes of characters. One can fly, the other can climb walls and the third uses a grappling hook. The world is set in a steampunk environment where Mimics(monsters of the world) threaten the inhabitants and there is the all too prevalent threat of the haze, which can only be held back by Ether. I’ve only played for a couple hours so I don’t know too much of the story but it seems interesting so far.

I have to say I’m very impressed with the way flash games are headed. Imagine just a few years ago, a game like this played on your browser would be unbelievable! Hats off to Flipline and also to Kongregate for putting money into innovation!

Iceblast: Level Challenge

Posted in Flash, Uncategorized | No Comments »

Well, progress has been good and I’ve got the main file down to 3.3mb. The gameplay is now an unending style. You get around 2 minutes to destroy all the crystals and when you do, the field is repopulated and the time reset. I’ve got this working but after playing Bejeweled Twist, I feel that I need to add a hook to keep people playing longer so I’ve decided to add a combo meter. When you reach a 10x combo you get a special burst that destroys all of the ice crystals on the field by one. I’ll put up a version for trial soon on the main site.

In other news, Iceblast will be on www.gamedujour.com on the 20th of November with a 50% discount. So those of you on the fence on buying it, this is the perfect time!
